Meet the Musher

Damon Ramaker is a SE MN native who lives near Fillmore, MN with his wife, 3 children and many dogs. He works at Mayo Clinic as a Emergency Department Nurse. Damon started the Deep Root Cause where he educates others on sled dogs, mushing, winter activities and living an intentional life. He has a Biology Degree from the University of Wisconsin and a Nursing Degree from Winona State University.

In the summers you can find him camping, hiking, fishing and canoeing with his family or doing projects on the yurt home that he built in 2016. He enjoys spending time with his parents as they farm together in the spring and fall. In the winter, he is busy with training his dogs, spending time with family and hunting with his brother when time allows.

Damon is in qualifying and training for the 2020 Iditarod Race. Damon and his team took 7th place in the 100 mile Gunflint Mail Run (Ely, MN) in Jan 2018 and 5th place in the 300 mile Race to the Sky (Lincoln, MO) in Feb 2018.   He plans on running his last qualifying races in 2019 and looks forward to the many challenges and adventures on the Iditarod trail in 2020.
